Function: formulation, coordination, execution and evaluation of policies related to the recovery, research and distribution of the nation’s cultural heritage, artistic education and identification. Preservation and protection of the historical and cultural patrimony of the nation. Creation, systematization, execution and appreciation of national policies related to education in general; including maternal education, primary education, elementary education, secondary education, higher education, vocational education, special education and distance education, except military education; evaluation, information and educational research; research and university extension; and teaching. It emphasizes the teaching of civic education of the population and development, as well as scientific, technological and cultural literacy.
